When the engine lights on, plug her into a diagnosis at an Auto sparky and see what comes up on the screen.

Actually have found this to be really useful in the past
ST165 Celica GT-4 <SOLD>
97 GT-T 18psi <GONE>
96 Carib BZ 5 speed

Looking to import a car? PM me
Lots of performance Toyotas forsale. PM me for details

or you can just run a diagnostic check yourself by bridging Te1 and E1 in the diagnostic box, and reading the error codes from the check engine light on the dash. From memory you should get code 54? I think if the intercooler pump has been disconnected. Do a bit of a search for error codes to find the exact procedure (can't be bothered typing it up). Once you find the codes do a search on google or something (most Toyotas use the same codes), or post them up here and I'll look it up in my manual
when I say my manual, it's actually one I have borrowed for the last couple of years, thanks Tim!

you hit fuel cut? That's normal, not over one bar though, more like 12-13psi.

yeah, st165 dont actually have a boost cut.

They have an air flow cut.

Guy down here built one as a race car. Used to cut at 12 -13 psi.

Put a big bore on it, then it cut at 10 to 12 psi,

and then put some cams in it and ported the head,
now it cuts out at 8 psi, LOL

Now he bring in in to me and says,
how the hell do you get around the boost cut?

Only solution is aftermarket ECU.

or you could install and st185 ecu + loom. Uses most of the same sensors etc, should run the engine fine and allow more boost.

The guy is being a tight ass.

I'd rather sell him my S/H link for a installed price.

might have a faulty actuator or a leak on the turbo-actuator or actuator - t-vsv lines. Also the previous owner may have added some form of boost controller, especially if they've been playing with stuff like making the ic pump run fulltime etc
