TEMS not working in AE101

Postby Argon » Tue Jun 28, 2005 7:43 pm

Hey all,

Just bought a Levin with TEMS and absolutely everything (even the parking pole on the bumper) works. *sigh* except the TEMS. :)

I know some of you will say that the TEMS system never worked and was more about damaging your spine than car handling characteristics, but if I can I'd like it to work.

Checklist:

TEMS switch connected
All fuses in car checked
Definately has OE TEMS shocks
Front two (at least) are plugged in

Any suggestions? :)

You got the TEMs control actuator box right?

You know that it just stiffens/softens the ride up and it doesn't change the ride hieght right? (some people got funny ideas)

Or the shocks themselves could just be warn.

I assume the actuator control is there somewhere....

I realise that its just an electronic damper adjuster, not a height adjuster.

I'm pretty positive it's not working, apparently the difference between the two settings is quite noticeable and the lights under the speedo are not illuminated. :(

I'm guessing its an electrical problem of some sort, but I cannot find any real info about the components of the system.

Cheers for the post, will try to trace wires backwards and see what I can find. :)

AE101 have it just like some EP82 starlets have it. Most people just replace it with Kyb/koni's etc when the facto stuff flogs out as last time I checked genuine TEMS replacement stuff was moonbeams.

Is anything gimmicky that Toyota loads it's cars up with ever cheap to replace? Superstrut suspension and factory Airbags (Think Century or top of the line Crown) are two good examples of stuff to rip out once it is past it's best.

It will be my intention once it's stuffed to give it the arse and put something more performance orintated in there, but the "new car syndrome" I have at the moment dictates to see if I can get it to work. :)
