AE82 Release Bearings

Postby ee904age » Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:19 am

Does anybody know if there is a difference in the clutch release bearing between an AE82 FX and a single cam AE82?

Ive just changed the gearbox in my liftback, which was using the carb box and a 4AG, now using the box that came with the engine. The clutch was reasonably new so I swapped the old bearing over to the new box but it doesnt work.

Ive tried adjusting the pedal, bleeding the clutch system and even levered the clutch fork right in with a crowbar but it wont disengage.

Any Ideas people???

Are you certain you have the plate around the right way? if not it fouls on the flywheel bolts stopping it from disengaging.
Is the slave cylinder going through its normal stroke when you pump the pedal if it is you need to pull the gearbox out, if not then you have hydraulic issues

Aint the clutch plate guys, I never touched the clutch.

Ant more ideas?

Im starting to think the 4AG has a thicker release bearing than the 4A. Its not hydraulic, the cylinder is getting full travel.

If its the bearing the release fork will always seem tight as in no free play as if its right you should be able to push it back forcing the slave cylinder piston in.
You could try a clutch supplier and see if the part numbers change.
pull the rubber boot of the release fork and have a look with a torch and see if the bearing is sitting on the fork properly.,
Failing all that take the box out
