I did not agree to anything, you are making a general assumption. I merely stated that if he gets failed on it then he should fix it.

Well at a dunedin wof station the guy failed my flatmates car on wheel alignment. I didnt think it was on the test sheet either???
& there was all this other crap on the list they said that needed replacing which didnt or they overcharged him for. but being the non car guy he is he just paid up for it.
Hence never take a car yo VTNZ or a garage. Take it to somewhere where you know & trust the guy looking at it.

Has anyone else ever had to pay $60 for 1 headlight bulb? thats sum expensive bulb, its not even gold plated or anything :lol:

Normally for cv boot probs dont they just write cv boot ripped on the form & still give you the warrnent?

Yep. Exactly it. I had it happen with my old car. He pointed out to me that the boot was ripped, but also told me that it wasn't an item that was required for a WOF.

Mr silent knight-yes you are right i DO need to get it fixed thats not why i posted the forum-i was asking CAN you fail on this not its failed on this so get it fixed

and i think the general answer from any decent mechanic was NO!

thats all no biggie really-lets just put it down to some mechanics getting their 'degree' out of the cornies packet

why dont you just get it fixed ....

simple

and then you get your warrent ...

toyota does cv stuff so maybe you should ask them to see what it will cost ... and if thats to much for you go to a mechanic then

either way ... its $&#$% so get it fixed i dont see the probelem

sure it might not BE a warrent item ... but it needs fixing so just get it done

you probably already knowthis but

if a mechanics is slow(any business for that matter) he is probably just trying it on so you go ... oh just fix it for me and he makes a few hundy ...

could be just a case of that .. in which case i would be going some where else to get it fixed and then go back and say

got it now please can i have a wof

A split CV boot is a failable item, it has only recently been introduced.

About Six months ago you could fail cv boots and tie rod end boots, but these items were later removed due to a majority of garages disapproved of this new rule.The only reason that you can fail a cv boot is if the cv has contaminated the brake pad linnings.
