Weird suspension and condensor clicking

Postby 71corona » Thu Jul 07, 2005 12:13 am

Had a couple of interesting things happen today. :)

Had to jump start the rona today as the battery is still a bit low after draining it the day I towed my new project home (92 nissan laurel -> rb20det). We had it bridged up to the trusty fxgt and as both cars were running we could hear that the condensor in the rona was clicking every second. But as soon as we disconnected the jumper leads the clicking stopped. Can anyone explain this phenomenom? Is it a fuse or something in the condensor if the circuit was receiving more charge than it could take?

Also, while taking time out from my laurel I did the typical random thing and pushed the rona from the side so that it would rock side to side, as like the boat that it is! So yup, heaps of lateral movement! Later on in the day, having forgot about this, I was driving around and the car had a tendancy to oversteer when more steering input was given. I presume that by rocking the car I have somehow put more pressure into the front shocks or something cos I would guess that the front end has somehow improved its grip. Does this make any sense? I almost lost control around a corner and was embarressed about its increased "boatyness". Ah well, I guess more responsible steering cant be a bad thing!

All things considered, the 6R is still going strong, well with the odd hi rev miss and hopefully she will get through another wof in a months time! :)

rocking the car side to side would not have altered the suspension at all.
if its a 71 corona, as Im guessing it is, it will have more over than understeer being an older rwd.
Cant believe im still a member here.

Rocking the car from side to side may alter your suspension marginally, but I doubt its measurable.
By rocking the car you may relieve the suspension bushings of stiction, however the first corner you come to would do the same thing.
You may slightly airate the shocks and or heat them. Both will reduce their effectiveness. However this should only increase the "boatyness", either way on your admission you may wish to replace those shocks!
The answer is Helmholtz!

Yeah well that was my assumption that somehow I had given the front end more grip and well since there are leafs at the back it sorta made sense. Yup it is my 71 corona. I mean I've been driving this boat for over half a year now then after rocking it from side to side the handling instantly changed. It may not be measurable but I almost shit myself when the thing started to grip at the front mid corner. Ah well, gonna have to adjust to the new driving style! :)

New shocks? Nah, not gonna spend any more money on her. ;)

Ah, found out what the difference was.

A couple of days ago I arrived home from work and noticed the neighbours kids near the back of my car. I thought they were just trying to grab their dog but nah, they let down my left rear tyre down to 10psi. Ah well, back up to drift spec 40psi. And that's the last time I'll be rocking my boat.

Any ideas on why the condensor was clicking when two cars are hooked up by their batteries and running?

Bluddy kids.
