sidedraft weber

Postby rwd_mayhem » Wed Jul 13, 2005 8:33 pm

ive been told that you cannot run a sidedraft carb upright like a downdraft. while looking through performance car at work i saw a mazda 1300 with a 12A which has a sidedraft weber (weber IDA is what it said) upright like a downdraft. now is this because its a rotor, why is it different? how is this done?

Webers

Postby GOLDAE86 » Wed Jul 13, 2005 8:51 pm

Thats right, the float bowl on a sidedraft is on top of the body, so it cant be mounted vertical like an IDA weber. What do u want to do?

Weber Side draughts are DCOE
Dellorto Side draughts are DHLA

Weber Down Draughts are IDA/IDF
Dellorto Down Draughts are DRLA

Those are the common ones & common stud patterns with a DCOE/DHLA being the same.
IDA/IDF/DRLA share the same stud pattern but this is different to the side draught one.

As above you can't run a side driaght upright, & nor can you run a down draught on it's side.

A side draught should be run so when viewed from the side the carb sits basically level, no more than 5 degree angle.

A down draught when viewed from the side should sit level.

Not hard if you've got the money, they go for ~$900 still...huge demand from NA ported rotaries really drove the price of them up.

The IDA's are quite tall.

Twin 40 IDF's is probably what you want for a 1600cc-2000cc road engine.

The IDA's come in the bigger sizes, most the you will get now would be either 48's or 51's with extended float bowls as that is what the rotary guys use.

Be prepared to spend a decent amount of money to get twin IDF's in reasonable condition though.

u should of known this both of you (crispy 86 and fangsport). 2tg and 2t have different manifolds, a 2tg manifold wont fit on a 2t.

Its is a pretty straightforward exercise to make an adaptor plate to mate 2T-2TG manifolds.

I can still get the odd 55IDA but basically now all you can get new is 48's & even they are getting harder to get new. I can however get IDA's modified to 51-60mm if needed. 48IDA are around the $900 mark new as above, not 100% sure as it's been a while since I sold a new one.

I think I've got a 2TG manifold for twin sidies still sitting on the shelf unused if someone is after one, don't think I've got a 2T one though.
