AE86 Problems! URGENT

Postby Hachiman » Thu Jul 14, 2005 11:13 am

Ok im having problems with the idle.
I've only just recently put a 4age in my 85 and its idling funny.
it starts up good and sometimes idles good but then at other times it revs around 2100rpm then drops 500rpm and continues doing this. Any ideas as to why?

Have a look see at the engine to!

Mine did that when the oxygen sensor wasn't working I think. Or it could be a random vacuum hose.

the oxygen senser is located on the exnaust manifold and should have some kind of plug/cable coming from the loom/ecu

Yeah check the vacuum hoses if you still have them on there, or like most people block off. The auxiliary air valve is prone for playing up in them too, that'd make it idle high/low all the time, and coolant level. Throttle position sensor too. check set up right,

Im feeling dumb cos i've checked these and no difference to the idle. Do i have to replace the sensors or check the connections or what? and i couldn't find the idle valve  Help!

If you've got a spare throttle body. Then chuck another one on. If the problem disappears then it was either the idle valve or the cold idle-up part (increases idle when engine is cold). I've cooked three cold idle-up bits... Lesson: Make sure you don't overheat your engine....

Hmmm i havn't got a spare t/b
however i disconected the vacum sensor and it appeared to stop idling funny but was idling higher than it should. round 13-1400rpm.
Maybe a dodgy sensor?
