new wheels made my front brakes "stick"?

Postby scope » Thu Jul 14, 2005 11:11 pm

hello

just bought me some 13x7 spitfires today and put them on my car. i went to drive but my car didnt move, so right now im like wtf. i jack up the front and try move the wheels and they didnt move so im like wtf. i take off the wheel and try move the studs around in a circle and it is real hard to move. it wont move at all with the wheels on the car. why is it doing this? i cant seem to 'unstick' them either with the wheels off

cheers for any help

Sounds like the rim is binding on the caliper - I'm assuming you've got disks brakes on the front. Try spacing out the wheel with packers on each of the studs - just to see if that is the problem. You may need to talk to whoever you bought them off about getting your money back.....

yeah i talked to him, he said i need spacers. i thought that but i stuck 'em on anyways, lol. yeah, they still stick but not as bad, as in still moveable just with a bit of force. any ideas on how to 'unstick' them?

i've been told to take a little bit of brake fluid out so it releaves the pressure but i'm not really sure what is meant by that

Got pics?
I have vague recollections that there are two different KE30 calipers, I know I had to mod my 79 model to clear Nissan wheels. It involved an angle grinder, if you have the right sort of calipers it will make sense. Be very careful if you do try that though.

taking some fluid out wont help, each time you pump them it pushes the fluid into the calipers to make them work. Im assuming they worked fine before you put the wheels on. Can you see/hear them catching anywhere?- Ive had several sets of mags that due to the design required the caliper to just be shaved a little (like 1mm) as it was just catching. The offest on them was correct, but the design made them catch.
as said, sounds like you may need spacers and really, you shouldnt be driveing it as is.
