Underlining of Bonnet - ST185

Postby FoRsaKeN » Thu Jul 14, 2005 6:41 pm

Hey there guys,
Was just wondering if anyone knew the pros and cons of taking off the underling of the bonnet. I know it is a heat and sound block, but was wondering how effective it is, and if so, if it would make any difference if i cut the front half off(or remove completely)... ie. damage to paint from heat, engine takes longer to cool down under direct sun ..???...etc...

thanks a lot guys

PS. Just curious cuz i was wondering if it would give better air flow/circulation... and keep my engine cool... and make my blow off valve sound louder :D
Cheers

That's what your coolant system is for... doubt it would give you better air flow either (not that that would be particularily beneficial anyway assuming you have a sealed or factory airbox)

its not a critical part... i ripped mine out of my old 185. removing it allows heat to dissipate from the engine bay better , wont net you any performance gains , but may save your wiring in the long run.gt4's have very hot enginebays :? will make it a lil bit louder and might save you 50grams of weight  i found on most 185's its usually half ripped anyway and is easiest just to pull out to tidy it up a bit.

Removing this also aid's in removing the paint off the bonnet.

Not a good look :!:

If you polish your car and garage it etc it will have a better chance of not peeling, but the heat will help peel the paint if the paint isn't looked after correctly.

So you think that the heat would effect the life of the paint???
Is that for the inside or the outside of the bonnet... or both?

Had the outside of the bonnet resprayed 4 months ago(cuz of the clear coat peeling that is common to celica's)... and don't really want to be respraying it anytimke soon :)

It will have an effect on the life of the paint. Most probably shorten it. If you just had the bonnet resprayed properly and you polish it, it should be good for the life of the car with the cloth removed or left there.
