Lowering a GT-T

Postby Toxic » Tue Jul 05, 2005 10:44 am

Hi There guys

what is the most economical way of lowering my car. I want to be able to still pass a warrant as well though.

I have been told to either
a) Professionally lower it
b) Take the springs out and get them compressed.

Please advise on the good and bad in choosing either options.

Thanks

Compressing...

Good - Cheap as ($120 for a full set), you can choose how low you want to go, bounces like $&#$% (I like that  )...

Bad - Can sag over time, the springs will still be the same spring rate, so it will bottom out heaps and it will bounce like $&#$%...

I was told that king springs and jamex are just compressed springs.
Is that true or are they actually designed so that they dont bounce like crazy.

they are not compressed. they are made for the job. opinions vary as to wether they are any good or not. personally kings are terrible, especially for something like a caldina
compressing would be worse
the TRD set is very good

I paid $170 for a full set of dobi springs from trademe, and $40 for a set of compressors from repco to put them in myself. Just keep an eye out - spring sets pop up every now and then.

if u r just looking for a cheaper alternative and u just want to replace the springs then dobis sit slightly lower and stil captive compared to kings .
I have put both sets in gt-t's and the dobis definetly suited the caldina better 8)

Where/how did you pick those up so cheap?
New or secondhand?
Did you install them yourself - or professionally done?

now a whole saler who imported a gt-t and took them out before it went to the car yard. wasnt able to get the momo airbag steering wheel unfortunately. all i had to pay was what it cost him to replace with factory shocks and install. i paid $150 to get them fitted and wheels re-balanced.

Well, getting adjustables put in - so I guess as low/high as I want (well depending on how far the cert lets me go i guess).

I think I'm paying about $450 for the cert...anyone else in Auckland that was charged less than that?

i have a bearing sitting next to the phone at home, so thats all good, but my shocks leaking so it could be that thats causing the woes
