Boost

Postby CAMB01 » Sat Jul 16, 2005 11:29 am

Hey all, ive finally got my GZE running in my FX, but when i gas it the boost guage reads 5psi, then later on in rev range it goes straight to full boost 8psi in 1st gear, 10psi in 2nd, 11.5psi in 3rd, 13.5 in 4th.
This concerns me, as i'm running standard pulley, standard intercooler etc.
I don't have a tacho wired up yet, but when it hits full boost, there aint many revs left before i hit the limiter. Its running bluetop cams if that helps. its like having a really laggy turbo.
The long block is from an AE101, and the supercharger is from an AE92.

13.5psi seems very high for standard pulleys...

Seeing as the boost is directly related to the rev speed, sounds to me like there something wrong with your gauge
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Nope, coz i can feel it kick in, say i'm in 2nd gear, it'll sit at 5psi then as the revs get up to bout 6500rpm it shoots to 10psi

YES.

I've just hooked up my tacho and at exactly 6000rpm in every gear it goes straight to full boost, sits at 3 - 5 psi before that.

I don't think so.
It has to be something electrical, as it boosts at 5psi below 6000rpm, then the instant it hits 6000rpm the boost shoots straight to high boost depending what gear i'm in.

ethier that or a abv
so do tell me how do you think it limits boost ???
you have 3 options
one the abv valve
2 you have a whol but that would be unlikely
or 3 supercharger is rooted

they are on or off there is no slipping option
they are directly coupled to the engine when locked so @ 6000 rpm eather the rotors are going fast enought to seal or your abv is puled up wrong

take ya pick

I'm thinking its the ABV.
But i plumbed it up according to the diagrams i got from toyota.
Could the bypass valve be rooted?
What if i bypass the ABV completely?

This might sound stupid, but i was looking at a diagram and a thought occured to me. Could ABV not be sealing properly, and is leaking boost back into circulation into the supercharger, where my boost guage can't read it as it is plumbed off the manifold.
But for some reason it seals from 6000rpm so i get all the boost going into the engine.
Just a thought, plz no bad comments.
I'm gonna try the ABV mod and see what happens

I've done the ABV mod and has given me 2 extra psi below 6000rpm, so instead of sitting at 5 it sits at 7psi till 6000rpm then goes straight to 10 - 12psi.
I don't really notice it as much now.
