garret T25 onto 3tgteu.

Postby al_feinted » Wed Jul 13, 2005 11:50 am

hi all, i got a turbo cheap from a R31 skyline, it says garret 048 a/r and want to know a few things about it like is it ceramic, ballbearing etc.

Would it be worth replacing the standard CT20 on my toyota 3tgteu with this, maybe i can fit a bigger compresser housing if it wont cost the earth.

Bear in mind i have small budget for my drift car and am not after massive power just curious if this turbo is a waste of space or if it has any potential? Since everyone says the CT20 is shit maybe this would be better or are there other cheap better options like VR4 turbs?

cheers.

If you can find one, a CT26 of a 7M-GTE is a good option. Minimal mods for it to bolt on to the factory manifold. CT26 from the 3S-GTE is different so won’t work.

thanks, i like the sound of a CT26, probably have slim chance of finding one tho. keeping my eyes peeled.

ease of fitting is not too much of an issue ill make myself a tube manifold if needed to suit whatever turbo i use

R31... ummm it could well be Jounal bearing but have a ceramic turbine wheel...

The Supra CT26 would be one good but a laggy option...

The other opition is to have the CT20 reconditioned with
a T3 or CT26 compressor wheel and have your compressor cover machined to suit.... and back cut on the turbine shaft would be a good idea...

a t3 off an rb20det is a good upgrade, easy to make an adapter plate so it will bolt on, also the turbo off the rb25det is better, sound cool too, thats what i run on my 3tgte, but with a custom manifold.

I would definitly go for the garrett option, form personal experiences toyota turbos dont ever seam to be that good, the only good one i have ever seen on a 3tgte was a ct12 i think from a surf, it was real responsive and the car went extremely well but it maxed out super quick and it didnt last very long, on the other hand i have a mate with an ae86 albeit 4age and it runs a t25 and its amazing even on like 5-10lbs is heaps of fun and its gone for ages now and it was only a wrecker turbo, unknown condition etc thats what im using on my current project.

If t25 works for a 4age it should be ok on my 3tgte i suppose. Im of the understanding the T28 or T3 has the same mounting as a t25 so maybe ill fit this t25 and if i want some more puff later i could get one of them?

Since ct26 might have some lag i wont get one of those.

I havent even tried the ct20 with more boost yet so with the t25 and 12pounds boost it might keep me happy 8)

cheers for replies

run something bigger, you got an M10 there by the sounds of it. NOT A T2 iriats.

I would go with skyline T3... Brad out south welded an adaptor plate onto his stock manifold.

turbo pik

Postby Sicktoy » Sat Jul 23, 2005 11:24 am

hey dude id prob go atleast t28 , stuff anything any smaller. geez ive tried many turbos so far.. like still experimenting , just changed to turbonetics t3/t4 with to4b-h front wheel , now thats damn fun! running a .63 rear with backcut stage 2 wheel , seems to go good , the previous skyline ones i tried just didnt seem to work good enuf, like noticable power fukoff around 6k.. like serious power loss just wouldnt flow
the best turbo ive used was prob my first one :( sad story with that one.. a mate dropped it years back. dunno what specs were i know it was some HKS one that was matched with my Hks exhaust manifold, maybee it felt faster cos i was yunger!
go t3/t4 ya wont go back!:)
its damn fun real responsive. if u wer in chch i cuda takn you for a spin :P

grab a series 4/5 rx7 ht-18 turbo, rip off the exhaust housing and get one off an rb20, get it machined to take the bigger exhaust wheel,

they go very well,
have used a lot of them on 4ages, ca18det's, and soon to fit one to an sr20
a bit big on a 4age boost comes on at around 3300,
on the ca18 it comes in a lot earlier and is a hell of a lot better than the t25 it had, pulls a lot harder the owner couldnt believe the difference.

could try a late model ca18det turbo

larger exhaust slightly larger intake

any thing is better than the stock turbo anyway...

t28 would be the go if you find a cheap one

after all the 3tgte is very much the same as a ca18.. displacement wise anyway
