Powersteering dead - getting Popeye arms.. :)

Postby RS13 » Mon Jul 18, 2005 8:43 pm

Hey ya'll..

I know its a Nissan, but out of all the forums I visit, this seems to have the higher quality technical knowledge, so bear with me.

I assume all powersteering systems have the same principles? My car isn't HICAS or anything. Last nite when I put the car away, I noticed the steering was heavier than usual, but I revved the car and it came right. When I drive to work this morning, it was dead, no assistance whatsoever, and you can imagine the fun in a 1300kg tank! Bought it home before, checked levels and belts, no problems. Went for a drive, still stiff as, went for a drive down a straight road, car warmed up enough to move the gauge.. came up to the corner, and it was working perfectly.

SO.. when the car is cold, it doesn't work, when the car warms up, it works.

Any ideas? I noticed on other Nissan forums, it seems to be a problem with A31's.. hmm.

Cheers! :D

Got enough fluid in the reservoir? Reading in it is usually higher when hot so you might be low enough that its not picking enough fluid up when its cold.

btw, PS pumps dont like going without fluid for very long at all

Good point, but all levels are perfect, and there are no leaks whatsoever from the entire system..
