What are these throttle bodies (pic)?

Postby anthonym » Tue Jul 19, 2005 9:01 am

Can anyone identify the throttle bodies (part 3 in the exploded drawing) in this (TRD Altezza) intake? Apparently they're a standard Toyota part. And if you know what they are, what is the i/d? Thanks :)

Well how many toyota 4cyl engines came with quad throttles?

Only the silvertop and blacktop 4AGEs as far as I know.
I hear about 4AGE quad throttles being used all the time for conversions, it wouldnt surprise me if TRD used them too.
I mean you can buy a kit to fit them to 1uz's.

My guess would be that they are blacktop 4age throttles, since they have larger diameter than silvertop IIRC.

However I have no idea of the actual dimensions you require.

IIRC they are 43mm for the silvertop & 45mm for the Blacktop, just the right size for my 3l V8 :wink:

Area of these is equivalent to a bit less than 86mm & 90mm single T/Bs, but more than enough to extract prodigious amounts of HP from any engine.

Anthony,
Both the picture & the diagram are the TRD throttle body set for Altezza 3SGE.We haven't confirmed officially but we have taken the time to measure & compare the TRD throttle body with a set of blacktop ones we have here.
Not surprisingly, they appear to be a perfect match. Which I guess is why the TRD set can be purchased complete or as separate items.

cheers

the TRD ones are listed as Toyota Genuine Parts, however you can only buy them as a complete setup from either Toyota or TRD. with the TRD ones you can however buy the other parts seperatly

Take this, which has the Toyota T/Bs;

add a Motec and a couple of CT20Bs, then make some sort of sealed plenum similar to this;

:? Does this mean you can't buy the Throttle Bodies seperately :cry: hmm might be cheaper to buy a couple of second hand engines then :roll:

Thanks for all the excellent replies everyone. I had assumed 8O that blacktop throttlebodies were <45mm, as that seems excessive for a 1.6. Interestingly the stock Altezza intake is slightly smaller than 45mm at the narrowest point, but the actual ports are substantially larger than this (oval 53 x 43mm) and are not drastically tapered as they run down to the valves. Dosen't really make much sense to me.

let me clarify....
edit: see post below, i goofed :oops:

from TRD you have to buy all the parts listed in the bracket marked 1
you cannot buy 3 seperatly.

second hand you can get the ae101 t/bs for $100-150
the blacktop ones are often $200 or more....
if your not in a hurry keep an eye out, every now and then deals pop up, like complete blacktop heads with t/bs for under $300

heres the toyota ones

from Toyota you have to buy the whole assembly.

And by whole assembly do you mean just the 4 throttle bodies without all the other gumf (like item 3 in the TRD pic I posted)?

Now, what is the car thats in? Is it just me, or is that an AW????
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Ahh I see now, looks like the Toyota ones don't have the trumpets but have a lot of other stuff that I wouldn't need.

Not in a hurry, still got to get the car back on the road (just ordered $20k of panels for it 8O ). I keep looking for them but I never seem to be in the right place when the parts come up for sale, usually when I'm still in Aus. :evil: Thought it might be easier to get new parts, but alas it appears not, pity as I could probably sell a few EFI conversion kits to defray my expenses.

It's just you, unless AW11's were made in Italy and had the Cavallino Rampante emblem on them :twisted:
