mid mount 4age into a mini

Postby deaf_rattle » Mon Jul 25, 2005 7:41 pm

We are looking at mid mounting a 4age into one of the minis that are spare.

which would be the best 4age for this build and any problems that we would be likely to run into?

we are looking at grafting in the stock dash gluster from the donor car into the mini, so wiring problems will be kept to a minimum.

i would assume we would have to make a new firewall to accomodate the new location for the motor, and possibly need some weight put into the front, to keep the nose down.

there's a couple of minis in europe where they've cut down an aw11 chassis then bodged it up to a mini body. That yellow one is one of them. Pretty major work. You'd definitely be best to use a silvertop or blacktop 20v with an aw11 gearbox, as this will give you the most power, because who wants to do all that work for 110hp?

thanks malcolm.

Yeah, most probably going with the silvertop, as the blacktop is too expensive.
probably buy a whole car and sell the parts we dont need.

should go alright, since it weighs bugger all

Why yes it is. No mods to firewall of suspension to make it fit. Guy reckons it doesn't handle any worse either, which I find hard to believe

would make a good mid mount. Box is to long to use 4age in fwd on a mini, but mid, with a lot of work, would fit. Pretty easy to get all the rear spot welded panels apart in a mini. Aside from the above, i havent seen any 4age mid mount conversions, but did measure mine up a while ago when thinking about it. Lots of other midmount engines grafted into minis- have a google, should be lots of subframe design ideas.
Make up a bolt in rear subframe for a real cheap price and I'll buy 1! :)
Cant believe im still a member here.
