haha a rather racist point of view there. ill elaborate if you want a debate. i too thought good on ya national for taking a stand to the maori free ride thru schooling etc, but after a bit of research ive backed out of that bigot way of thinking and can see why it was put in place. Overall extra maori benefits/scholarships should still be there for now, until a change in the young education ciricullim, but from some of the few stories ive heard it should be monitored a lot tighter so those who actually need assistance get it.

as for beneficiaries? i unfortunately i was one myself for a small period of time this year and its not that pleasent or that easy to get 'catered' for without putting work in yourself.
which leads me to believe that you think that if you dont work - you dont deserve any assistance? situation - you're in a job, earning enough to pay ya rent etc then work decides to make you redundent for various reason. it may take you a month or more to manage to find another decent job and believe me winz dont make this fall back all that comfortable.
on the other hand if you've been out of work for more than 6 months then you need a good kick up the ass haha.

ok so maybe i should have been more specific...

i have no problem with someone between jobs going on the unemployment benefit for a short period of time while they find another job this is what the system is there for, and in that respect, its a good idea. The sickness benefit-again, no problem with people on it legitimately.

Its the people playing the system, and stealing money from the people who actually need it that piss me off. The same with all the whinging little groups out there, for example, people whove just moved near an airport or speedway about having a noise problem, and the govt actually listening to these idiots-if you knew you werent going to like the noise, you shouldnt have moved there in the first place.

And i saw nothing racist about my post, im part maori, and certainly not rich, but that wont stop me voting national... im also hoping that theyll end all the treaty of waitangi bullsh*t

full agreements to the speedway arguement though. the people that moved there got their houses cheap (in comparrason to other parts of central auckland) for a reason then they have the nerve to campaign to shut the springs down. then again...with national you would have got the same result (at the time that it happened im sure national were saying 'this is a stupid idea to shut it down!) but thats politics. none of the parties actually care about the people but if they listen to all those thousand that complain then they will surely score their vote next time round.

personally who gets in power wont much any difference to me but i'd rather something that is making slow positive change like helen rather than bigot don that is looking for a quick fix without actually dealing to the deeper issues

Ah but did i mention that im a member of the national party? (long story)
I think i have to vote for them but i also dont like the viewpoint that labour seems to have of "we know best for you" (an example would be the proposed "junk food tax"-ffs if i want to eat maccas, i dont want to pay the govt for the privilege of deciding to eat unhealthy once in a while).

Im also hoping national will live up to their promise of putting all fuel tax towards roading-when im paying around $1.50 per litre for gas, and over half that is tax, i dont want to be driving on crap roads that have only stopgap fixes that will be gone next time it rains, because they couldnt be arsed paying the $ to do it properly the first time

the idea of a junk food tax isnt all about them thinking they know whats best for you. Its about the alarming rate of obesity/diabetics. Making these junk foods less desirable to comsumers is about making the country healthier which affects the health system in good ways.

living up to a promise is something that politicians rarely achieve but theres already enough roadworks out and about haha, they're everywhere! but i think that should depend on what part of the country youre in. if you live out rural you shouldnt be paying for auckland roads. i lived in aux all my life and on the shore for a few years, fair enough i was paying faxes that went towards the roads and building super big motorways but moved to hamtown now and i dont think i should be putting my tax towards something thats not in my community

yea i agree, its a bit rough for people not in auckland to pay for our roads.

subsidising healthy food would be a better idea-encouragement will always work better than hitting peope where it hurts most-their wallet.. well thats my opinion anyway... better education for that sort of thing would be good too-i think the "push play" campaign is a good one, for raising peoples awareness of what they can do.

at the end of the day, i think a lot of it is attitude, and i think us NZers are a bit of a lazy bunch in general

This is a great debate!

I am unhappy with labour, but, until such time that another party becomes what I think of 'competent' I will most probably vote for them.
I hope they have (or have had) a live debate this year.
One main thing that I am unhappy with is immigration, and I apologise to any one offended, but I feel that New Zealand should be slightly stricter on people let in and provided residence permits, and also people who have gained residence permits and are found to be commiting crimes. We don't need more criminals to worry about, we are having enough problems with existing ones.

Not hugely important, but hey, thats me.

You will probably find the roading budget is all proportional - the smaller centres have less population, but the roads are also used less and road works are less frequent.

Between Auckland and Wellington, Wellington CBD roads are quite bad, but head out to lower hutt and the highway out there is really good. Hamilton, Rotorua, Tauranga, usually all nice main roads, but the congestion is pretty bad in Wellington and an absolute nightmare in Auckland ...
