If its NZ new though then its unlikely to have the diff code on the chassis plate. If it does would be curious to know if its an X code or U code.
I would probably be looking to a 4.1 or 4.3 ratio diff for the 4A depending on what your intended use is.

If its a drophatch is it always going to have a U-code? Anyway I would go for a 4.1 or 4.3 as above good thing with hilux diffs is the wide range of ratios. I have collected heaps whenever deals come up, he plans is I can have a 4.5 or 4.7 for the drags/ taupo track etc

Thats what I'm looking into, every 4K (KP61) drop hatch I have looked at have been U code. But I also know someone with a KP60 (2K) drop hatch who has an X code. Theory is the 2K drop hatch still ran an X code, while the 3K (KP62) and 4K (KP61) were upgraded to the U code.

Im running 4.5:1 hilux with T50, on 195,45,16 wheels, almost identical final drive to ae82 fxgt, does 3550 rpm at 100km so its sweet up thru the gears and sufficient (but not perfect) for motorway cruising

I run a T50 with a 4.8:1 most of the time but if I want to got fast I'll put in the 5.3:1 thou with the 5.3 the top end is only 160kph  , so I'd stay with 4.8:1
