quick question: alarm wiring

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Mon Aug 01, 2005 9:27 pm

just wanting to confirm i'm right -

got an alarm but the manual is quite vague with the wiring instructions...

basically theres two wires coming out of the siren: a red and a red and black. there is a brown wire coming out of the main "control unit" for the alarm (not sure exactly what its called!) and according to the manual the brown wire goes to "siren". so do i just join the brown and red wires together then put the red and black wire from the siren to an earth?

can't think of any other way it'd be but just want to make sure first

Not always the case.

Some alarms I've fitted, (alpine as one which they dont make anymore and a few other cheap brands)
Have the red wire straight to the battery and the alarm unit earths out the siren.

You need to check if your alarm puts power out or if it earths.

i guess they would state that the red wire goes to the battery if that was the case...the earth would be a more obvious guess...i guess
the manual doesn't say whether the alarm works by earthing out or putting power to the siren. its only a cheap heap of shite anyway, probably better off investing in a chihuahua or something but i supose anything that makes noise...

Ive got an alarm in front of me with the same colours (mongoose phase 2). The brown on mine goes to the red on the siren and the other is eartherd.
as above, easy enough to check with a mulitmeter or even a test light to see if its a + or - feed from the main unit.
Cant believe im still a member here.
