head unit

i dont no much bout headunits so i need peoples advice. At the moment i have Rockford 6.5 inch 2 ways, shitty 600 watt sub and a 2 channel kicker amp, which the sub and the speakers r hooked up to. My sony h/u has jst broke so i am looking for a new one i have found:

Alpine CDE-9843
Clarion DXZ-746MP
Pioneer DEH - P4750MP

So i need to know which would better or if there is any other head decks that could be better below $300

Can't comment on the pioneer and Alpine, but I have the dxz746mp and I love it. Such a huge upgrade in quality and clarity over my *cough cough* Sony CDX F5500X. But It's really up to you, go to a store and listen to them all and pick the one you like.

I went for pioneer because of the ipod adaptor otherwise i would have gone clarion.

anyone know why alpine STILL make headunits that look similar to their 1985 range?

I have a clarion 746 its agood quality unit with a 24bit DAC in it compared to the alpine and the pioneer. If you looking at the best digital reproduction of the lot then the Clarion wins, but the clarion lacks features such as an eq and a couple of other little things that the Alpine or the Pioneer may provide.

Clarion has my vote.. and it has some funky screen displays, front/rear/sub 4v preouts and the internal amp is defeatable for competition styles (if that rocks ya boat)

oh ok ye, i just want a headunit that will give nice clear sound to the speakers and not always crap out like my sony.
