standard clutch? or heavy duty? wat brand? i got my old car (FTO) done with heavy duty clutch around $800ish with flywheel machine...

make sure they include machining the flywheel as it would be a pain to get the out to do it again... :D
Cheers...

Go to BNT... probably about $250 from memory for an Exedy one. But yeah the best way to find out how much one is is to ring a few places that sell them. Then you'll know fo sure

Fukin jesus, i recently got a replacement gearbox not long ago, and had the clutch and flywheel machined at same time.

minus the gearbox price, was about 400ish (clutch kit, oils, labour, machine flywheel)

Cooke Howlison toyota quoted me $375 i think

how in gods name did he get $900 :?

try askin around another couple of places, shouldnt be more than $450.
I had vtax :(

Geez! I've never paid more than $650 for a clutch job, and that was my 180sx, and that was with a $350 clutch kit, and machining, and oil change.

I wouldn't go with the $900, I mean, its' just a simple FWD, I'd say an average amount would be about $400-$600 tops.

RWD is a lot quicker to do than a FWD.

Allow say 4 hours for a FWD which if you work off $70/hour + GST is a bit over $300 for labour. Some clucthes are more than others so allow another $300-350 for that depending on what its worth. Add on a couple of litres of gearbox oil, possibly rear main seal, flywheel machining etc. There is say $650 for clucth and labour alone without adding the other bits and pieces on

Check what you're actually getting a quote for too as the expensive ones might include everything and cheaper quotes might just be for the clutch and labour

Well you cant really tell until you're in there. Whoever you decide on, get them to check things such as gearbox fluid (probably drain it when taking the gearbox out anyway), rear main seal (in behind flywheel, change if leaking or do it anyway if you want to pay for it. If it leaks you get oil on the clutch and would need a new one), flywheel machining (might as well do that too, better than having it slip). Thats about what I would get done, flywheel machine, gearbox fluid and rear main seal.

clutch

Postby JasonZE » Sat Aug 06, 2005 2:06 pm

As HRT said depends on what they quote for?

I would generally quote for worst case senario ie rear seal, oil, machining, labour, genuine and aftermarket clutch kits which do vary either way by alot often nowdays genuine cheaper yesterday i quoted for an 1800cc imprezza non turb repco $750 for kit genuine $350!!! so this shows how you can get a high quote like yours so you need it on paper and whet you are getting.Sometimes people include slave cylinder for piece of mind so you need to check.

Most i do come in about $650-$700 all up. @ lab rate $70 inc gst.
I also advise a wheel alignment as when taking crossmembers and axles etc out it does effect alignment and we dont want worn tyres after a few hundred k's following clutch job
