HKS Cams

Where's the best place (if any) in NZ to enquire about HKS cams for a 3S-GTE?

HKS Cams

Postby 2spicey » Fri Aug 05, 2005 3:43 pm

I run HKS 272 cams in my 3S-GTE cause they were in there when I brought the car. I believe Kelford Cams would be the best as they do a cam with the same profiles but better still, they can offer alternatives to suit your application.

Preferably NOT the HKS 3 bolt design, there was a thread at ALSC a while back where it was destroying the belts, and the teeth were hacking away.

Although, since then, I think they've upgraded to a 5 bolt design and rectified the problem, best to ask around first though.

I don't know if this applies to all model engines but just make sure you are looking at the 5 Bolt design...

Price them up from overseas...I've in some cases it to be cheaper to buy brand new parts from Japan and paying to get them shipped to New Zealand than it is to buy the item brand new over here. :?

Cheers for the replies. I've alreday sent Kelfords an e-mail - still awaiting a reply. Just weighing up my options. Spoken to Lynn Rogers about a gas flowed head and he recommended HKS for cams.

I got mine from direct from Japan through Takakaira, probably the cheapest and easiest way to buy them.

IMO you don't need any more than 264's set to HKS specs unless you plan on making more that 700hp without Nitrous 8O

http://www.cj-motorsports.com/3scamtest/test.htm shows the differences between stock, 264's, 272s, Toda 280s, staggered, high lift/low lift etc, and should help in your decision

Yea that's the exact way I priced them up aswell through Takakaira...generally works out cheaper even with shipping included.

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Almost right, just that they don't have that dip at the top, they just run out of revs, the graph is still pointing upwards 8O

that switch to offboost/onboost must be fun 8O
iv seen a dyno plot of a 500hp cosworth engine, looked something like that, the owner reckoned it was pretty scary when you hit that point
