Postby gazza_jay » Mon Aug 15, 2005 9:23 pm

Ive hooked up a oil pressure gauge... im sorta worried bout how much pressure my 4age 20v has at bout 7500 my car passes 100psi is that ment 2 happen shouldnt it b a lil lower... I know vvt runs on a oil pressure solinoid does that increase much oil pressure. ive cleaned the pcv valve. it has the usual smoking 4 a 4age when u kane it. and the vvt pully is rooted lol and ideas would help... hm hopefully supercheap give refunds lol

You been thrashing it when its cold? My cold oil pressure on a GZE was about 60psi at idle and up to 80 or so with a bit of revs when cold. Dropped to about 20ish at idle when warm and not much over 50 when driving from memory.

I would not be too concerned about it, there are alot of factors. But this is not really too high. It is in the upper scale though!!

does that gauge use a sender or does it feed oil to the gauge?

yea its run off a sender unit. and the reading is when the car is up 2 operating temp... if im cruising round town it varies from 40-60 when warm. i know it will read higher when cold. its just when you put ur foot down oil pressure goes past a hundy pretty quick oil level and all that r good.

If you vvt pulley is stuffed then the buildup that has caused that may also be causing your oil pressure relief valve to be stuck shut which could cause the high reading. Sometimes you can get your vvt pulley working again by taking it to a reconditioners and leaving it in their acid bath for a week - cleans all the crap out from inside them.
