ST182 engine mount!!

Postby blitzr4 » Thu Aug 18, 2005 3:47 am

Hey guys,

sorry if this has been covered many a time before but i did a search and came up with a post that had the same symptoms as mine but it had no replies! :( so wasnt of any help...

I know the vibration is due to a worn engine mount and im pretty sure its common, just wondering if anyone knows which mount it is exaclty and what the cheap fix is (if there is one apart from a new mount bush) and i dont dont want to hear "nolathane" or "weld it solid" lol

Cheers for anyhelp in advance!

Well if you don't want to hear any of that then why did you just make this pointless post? Get a new engine mount and put it in. You don't want to be taking cheap shortcuts if an engine mount needs replacing.

If you need to see wich one needs replacing then jack the car up and have a look at the mounts. No one here will be able to tell you with certainty exactly wich mount it is going to be without being able to see the mounts first.

why not to nolathane it?
I've done it on my ST165, and I was surprised how flexible they are.
BTW to mould a mount at Autolign is about $90-$120, so not far away from brand new price.

as Silent Knight says, put it up on stands and have a look for the worn mount. Sometimes they can be hard to spot if only slightly worn, but get someone to rock the engine while you look.
The cheapest fix would probably (but not always) to get a second hand one from the wreckers, or fill the mount with window sealant (depending on mount shape).
How have you diagnosed it is definatly a mount if you dont know which one is gone? when do you get the vibration?, just on takeoff or breaking??

from a St182 driver, i still couldnt tell you which mount it would be, theres not a "Common" mount that will go. Only advice is do what the guys above have said, there is no other way round it really, buy new, second hand, or strenghthen the one u got...
I had vtax :(

ok sorry if the post seemed pointless i just thought it would be a common mount that always gave way... and i could just replace that which would save me having to jack the car up checking every mount etc as i dont really have the time during the day.

im pretty sure its the engine mount... it vibrates a little at idle and when slowing/changing down (AT) and at a certain revs (usually low rev and loading)..

guess ill just have a look then since its not as common as i thought and replace what i find is stuffed.

also...are the steering racks adjustable?

Cheers

depends what you mean by the rack being adjustable. Not including the tierods on either end (as they arnt the actual rack) the only sort of adjustment there that I know of, on the drivers side, is the rack guide bushing on the oppoisite side to the pinion. This just adjusts the tension on the pinion correctly so that side does not get any movement. Its not something that really gets done unless your rack if flogged out or getting rebuilt.
