4age series

Postby Lamphant » Fri Aug 19, 2005 3:18 am

how many types of 4age's are they.....here in the caribbean (barbados) we only have/get 2 types which are the silver and blacktop (16v/20v) 4age's. i've seen in some other topics mention of blue tops and red-tops....... and was wondering what is the difference between these 4 "models" of the same engine

thanx

There is heaps of info around on the net about them. Do a google search for "4AGE generation" and see what you find.

the misinformation on these engines on the net is astounding.

thanx alot guys, i didn't kno that there were dat much different types of 4age's out there. but by the way tings look it seems as tho the silvertop is the way to go in terms of torque........

but which 4age series do yall guys prefer. we here in the Barbados only get the silver and blacktop, so there ain't much to choose from

what do you intend to use it for?
racing? are you going to rebuild it at all? or just run it in a road car?

most likely racing it. i kno that de 20valve is probably best kept naturally aspirated and stuff, but de flow characteristics of the head shows that it could be useful if FI, but de engine is goin to be used as a street racing, daily commuter

then the best one is the silvertop. they go fine turbod, with lower comp pistons.
if you can afford it, a blacktop with silvertop rods would be good. or rebuild a silvertop with blacktop pistons and head.
for a racer you would be better off with the silvertop rods

*enter stage left*
Actually the small port has little to do with Helmholtz. It's to do with flow and velocity. The smaller the port the larger the velocity, the more fuel stays in suspension. But that's been covered a million times before.

My pick has always been the 16 valve non tvis redtop for power and a good span of torque, however its all application dependant. Bigports may be better for power at 10k RPM. Blacktop perhaps turbo?

Saying the above I'm hoping to get good power from my new Blacktop, surpassing my smallport.
The answer is Helmholtz!

matt thats what im looking at doing, cept with a p+p smallport (stock valves rarara) and a stock bluetop, the P+p is gonna be fairly simple, similar to clints. Is a wee way off tho, either late this year or early next, if any difference i expect the bluetop to go higher, but im hoping money spent will come through on the day
