3S-GTE Intake pipe to turbo (revisited)

Postby Kevorkian » Sun Aug 21, 2005 1:02 pm

Well after much looking around I simply could not find the intake pipe I needed.

So I managed to find a similiar looking size and shape pipe from a Mazda of all things, and chopped it to fit perfectly.

The hole that I could see in the pipe turned out to be MUCH worse than it looked when I pulled it off. It was entirely split the whole way around and looked like the previous owner knew about it because it had electrical tape around it attempting to cover it.

One thing I did notice was there was a bit of oil in the turbo, and the old pipe, is this a bad thing? Well the car seems to be running alot better now that the pipe is fixed, not so much heaps faster or boosting harder, but it idles better and seems to drive smoother.

Mine has oil in it too. I think its from that return line that feeds into the intake. Not too sure where that line comes from but I think its probably normal and builds up from oil vapour over 90000 km in my case.

Yeah the oil is normal. Its the fumes vented from your crankcase and being sucked into the intake via the 10mm appox dia tube that enters on the second to last elbow before the intake reaches the turbo. Have you tried "The Mount Shop" central park drive in Henderson? They have recently started stocking these hoses... no idea on prices as never needed them.

I dont even know where Henderson is :P I'm from Brisbane remember :D I only came over to NZ for the cheap mean cars :D:D:D:D

Oh.. and I also came over cause my gf wanted me to :P (best not forget that bit)

Well the piece of cut up rubber that I pinched off a Mazda seems to be doing the job and no amount of flogging the guts outta the car seems to be making it wanna fall off :D Now all I gotta do is see how crap my car is compared to all the other guys and girls at the Whangamata meet on the 27th of this month.

Yup, the Mount Shop do stock those intake pipes....I can get you a price, but I doubt they'd be cheap
