is it during cold start or it is always noisy??? if it is always noisy, then it would be like Mr Revhead said, is the VVT pulley... if it is just the cold start and it went away when the engine is warm, it could be ur tensioner... :D
Cheers...

About an hour, depending on how hard it is to get at the cam covers. You might want to do the cam belt at the same time.
No, in no way will it run better.
Not a clue.

the only way itll go better is if the pulley has jammed. which does happen but is fairly rare

tensioner went in a blacktop I had made a violent noise when revved so maybe its the vvt pulley. I could see what it was straight away because rwd and no covers. When the pulleys go is it just the dampening fluid leaks out?

Could just be a noisy injector, to the untrained ear it could sound like a tappet.
