4age cooling system, cooling to much

hey ppl
what happens is when you drive the car (more than 20kmh) the temprature guage reads at about 5-10%. even when you have been driving around for ages. the idle at this temp is about 1500.
when you stop the temprature guage rises to about half - where it should be. and the idle drops (as the temp rises) to about 800.
its only when its cold (winter days and stuff) i dont recall it doing this in summer.
this annoys me coz its a c**t to drive when its cold.
is this something to worry about?? and what causes it?

Sounds like it could be your thermostat sticking open, which means its time for a new one. I had that problem with my MR2 when i got it and since replacing it its been sweet as

I was talking to a friend of mine who was telling me about a similiar problem with my car. Mine turned out to be a combination of the headgasket, and the radiator, the radiator was under too much preassure or something causing the water to burst out everywhere. The temp guage would skyrocket to hot... then (which was explained to me by my mate) once the thermo sensor isnt touching anything it will fall back to cold or near cold)
