The front and rear engine mounts are usually the first to go, especially coz its a FWD vehicle, but I've never had a problem with the side mounts.
Are you launching from the traffic lights too hard?? :?

I'd guess so. Might pay to get it up on a hoist and have a good look at all the suspension.

Just check everything:

Sway bar links and bushes
Front and rear engine mounts
Control arm bushes
Balljoints

There has to be something under there thats not working properly, putting strain on the other parts of the vehicle.

Take it to a recognised suspension company, they should be able to check it over for you at no cost. :D

No probs, I've had both a silvertop and a blacktop, and have had to replace engine mounts on both. usually the rear engine mount. Good Luck. :D

I had driver side engine mount stud broken off on my AE101, the reason that it broke off, was that i did 2 things wrong:
1) overtitghten nut on one of the studs
2) not tighten enough the second nut on the second stud
so when nut number 2 fall off because it was not tight enough, the number 1 stud broke off because it had too much stress on it... so I had to extract what was left of stud and put a new one (and new nuts).

Funny thing is I saw the stud flying off (about 1.5m in air) in my rear view mirror (and heard a few bangs, as it was bouncing off the belts, then chassis, then underside of the car).

would have thought toyota would have made stronger mounts to harness the torque put out by the blacktop....

Mawhahahaha!!! Even I have to laugh at that comment!

When I had my old ae101 trueno, I was working for a supension company called SAS, and when my front and rear mount broke, I replaced the bushes with a better designed and stronger type. And just a note, if anyone tells you to put urathane bushes in... tell them to f#@k off. Thats unless its a race car. :D

And so rather than fix the actual problem, your just going to start a new one and charge him more for urathane mounts??? :? I really don't think a harder mount is the solution, especially made out of urathane which will make his car 'shudder' more at idle and won't last as long as a standard rubber mount should.

I got solid urethane mounts made for the front and rear of my 20v.. Works great, as there is no stupid rocking of the engine after you accelerate then break...

Hey Toyrota How much would u charge per mount as I dunno if the ppl I got to do it will do it again .???

While i was putting my new clutch in i finally had a good look at the rear engine mount (the only one i couldnt see) and it looks like its rotted or something so i have replaced it with a new replacement, hopefully this was why my cam belt side engine mount kept breaking.. heres some pics

Im about to get some done, $20 of the crinkly folding stuff each, but you must supply a new mount (well thats all I have done so far to ensure the new urethane gets a good bond)
