new mounts or modified x-member? 4agze into ke30

Postby scope » Tue Sep 06, 2005 10:17 pm

hey

planning to 4age turbo my 30 and was gonna buy some of 'em 4age mounts to fit k-series x-member off trademe for $250 but then a dude told me better to get like an ae70 crossmember and take it with my old x-member to engineer and make it fit my car cause it would be cheaper and that "it's better"

just wondering what everyone else thinks..

cheers

Rubbish, the mounts on trade me, made by Grotty are choice. Im using a set on my 4AGE in KE30, they bolt right up, and fit perfect, gearbox lines up nicely and they fit wicked. dont piss around modding stuff, just buy bolt ons. Definately worth the money.

mate, if grotty makes them buy them, he makes good shit!. it is possible to make a ae70 xmember fit, but big hassle, and you have to change the castor rods and sway bar, r&p, and mod sterring column as well, and you endup with wider track. i moded a ke70 xmember into my ke20, steering rack and all.not easy, you would be looking at wellover $250 for someone to do this for you.

Always use as many factory parts as you can. Modding a crossmember may be cheaper IF you know the right people, but what if you damage it in an accident? Then you have to do the whole lot again. Also if you wish to transfer the engine to another car later on or sell it to someone a bolt in job is much much easier. There is a lot to be said for paying a little extra for quality parts that you know fit, you could probably get mounts made cheaper with the right mates but it is very easy to overlook the little things that Grotty's mounts already account for.

yeh i think we speak for a decent amount of people who have bought grotty's engine mounts. he made sum for my brothers 4agte ke25 and they are very good quality and lined up perfect. very well worth the $250 and as mentioned the use of factory crossmember etc makes life easier and cheaper in the long run if u are involved in an accident.
