car stereo problem

Postby baker » Fri May 27, 2005 11:06 am

on saturday i was playing with amp and managed to blow a fuse (thats not the problem). my stereo was working fine while this was happening, but as i was driving home, all my speakers cut out, but the sub was still going. now, my sub works, but all the other speakers dont. there is still pwoer running to the headdeck, the display still works and i can change cd's in the cd changer, but no sound is coming through al my other speakers. could it be that ive blown the amp in my head deck? ive checked all fuses and there allright.

any help would be much appricated. cheers

check each speaker individually (disconnect the others)
sometimes if you pinch a wire (short circuit or earth a speaker out) it kills the music to all the speakers. i ahd this happen in one of my old cars. one of the wires had some of the shielding worn off and it was earthing on the cars body = no sound from speakers!

hope that helps

as above, but you could have blown your headunits internal amp, im guessin the speakers are running of te headunit, and the sub is usein pre-outs??

problem solve= check wires for power, if none, u prob rooted your headunit buy grounden one of the speaker wires
or
take it to a place to fix it
or
if its cheapers, and you have enough RCA outs, buy a four channel amp to run speakers, but make sure RCA outs work, (test with sub)
or buy new headunit
