Starting Problems

ought a 1985 ae82 corolla with a 4age in it. when its cold it starts with some hesitation but still starts but once it warms up things start turning to custard. when you come to a stop it keeps on wanting to stall and when you try to start it seems as if there is no battery and engine turns very slowly sometimes not even turn at all. this problem has caught me out twice now as i was driving along the highway ans came to some lights then it stalled and wouldnt start. any ideas as to what might be the problem?
