sw20 mr2 3sgte: starter likes to stay on

Postby Psycho_Dad » Tue Sep 13, 2005 11:29 am

ok just bought a 1989 sw20 mr2, small problem, when i take it for a spin, it boost cuts(well it feels a hell of alot like a boost cut to me at 5500rpm@about 7 pounds) then when it goes down to idle, the startermotor is contunuously on.... not i dont know jack about sw20's, surely boostcut isnt at 7psi? perhaps the plugs are fux0red? and this starter motor thing is confusing the heck out of me... im gunna go pull a plug out tonight see what she looks like

any other ideas as usual will be apprecitated

also if you just cruise in it, the starter motor never switches on

cheers

sounds like someones been playing with the wiring before you.

and last i heard, 7psi = stock ecu "dead mode", in short, it wont let you boost any higher if somethings wrong.

Check your error codes

CT26 (same with ct20b) Wastegate is set at 7psi, the ecu controls a manifold "tap" to take it any higher.

But i could be wrong :P

any ideas? still only boosts to 5500 rpm then splutters and crap, oh yeah and its got a boost tap on it

starter motor i dont know, should only turn on when you give it power, or earth it, or whatever haha, so just check the wiring around it and see if its been cut to peices.

Remove boost tap and use a normel hose / setup and check what that does.

spluttering over 5500 eh, thats called having a ct26 :P

If its running like a dog higher in the revs just get new plugs....or check the gap of the current plugs, should be around 0.8mm. ngk bkr6e is the stock copper plug. If that doesnt fix it get new oem leads, rotor and dizzy cap, prolly run you $160 at the most through Mr Revhead. Most 3sgte running problems are ignition related...they seem to eat ignition systems.
