Intercooler Piping

Postby Santa'sBoostinSleigh » Fri Sep 16, 2005 3:52 pm

Hmm just trying to figure out whats going on with my IC piping and have been throwing a few ideas around.
decided to go with stainless piping
ive got a guy at work that can do the welding for me so thats sweet.
when it comes to the bends etc thats where it gets tricky.
i was just in our workshop scavanging for bits to use and ive found some straight pipe for behind the radiator and from the guard --> T/B.
obviously gentle bends will be easy to do with bits of pipe. but when it comes to bends such as 180deg that goes from behind the radiator around radiator and to I/C, these are around $80 each!! same with the silicon bends etc theyre pretty dear too

would using high burst pressure reinforced hose work any good?
if not why not?

gentle bends??

you need mandrel bends i would say 4x 90deg bends and 3x45 deg bends would be a good start.

thats why i thought of something like high burst pressure piping
weve got a roll of this clear stuff with a wire running thru it i saw, but not sure what the diameter is  me goes to measure, dont think it will be big enough tho
also need some reducer stuff. why do I/C manufacturers put 3" in/outlets - oh yeah ricers want big lag pipes......

yup thermflex hose is good, but still expensive the stuff we use to sell was like $7 an inch

shop around try mico's etc for the bends, you should be able to get 90's etc for about $30ea

the pipe we've got in our workshop is 2" ID, so thats not what i was looking for for the IC->TB side, but... will it make much of a dif if i go:

TURBO -2" SS Pipe-> INTERCOOLER -2" Flexi pipe-> 2.5" SS Pipe  TB

grrr this is hard work!

various sizes, from about 50mm to 100 odd.
its a flexible hose, so no bends. itll be ok for joiners but i wouldnt run it in bends
