Hey im after some info from all you 3s guys. Whats the difference in the crankshaft between gen1 and gen2? some people suggest it is exactly the same but made with a different quallity material? others say the difference is in the keyway?
Help Please.

yea, a "t" is missing but a "Z" would be different.

No its not a rwd drive setup, I went ahead and got gen2 stuff.

If anybody is interested, the difference is that the flywheel bolts holes in the crank are bigger, 8 holes in gen1 and gen2.

Differences in the block: there is one more thredded hole on the opposite side to the oil filter in the gen2 block, Gen2 has knock sensor. (otherwise identical).

Pistons in gen2 have a raised crown, but valve pockets are cut as deep on both gen1 and gen2> therefore gen2 pistons giving greater compression.

Rods are the same.
ST-205 gt4 rods are also the same dimentions as gen1 rods>therefore interchangable (not sure about construction materials)

Oil pump is interchangable.
sump and oil pick up the same, along with the baffle plate in the sump.

NB. ALL this may only apply to the engines that i have, Things may very between MR2, Celica Etc. But as a rough guide they should be the same.

If anybody on this forum has info and/or personal experience in supercharging a 3S it would be appreciated.

yes the cranks are different. the gen2 8 bolt crank pattern is larger than the gen1 and gen 1 can be either 6 or 8 bolt. i came across 4 different pistons in the gen1. n/a you have dished, flat and raised pistons, yes you notice the difference in power between them as i went thru 5 of them, and the turbo dished piston. but i only had one gen2 turbo engine.
