sc rebuild

Postby Fandango » Mon Sep 19, 2005 2:49 pm

if you take the charger off, Il do it for $500, including parts. If you dont want to take it off, pm me and we'l discuss a price.

Evilsi (simon) quoted me around 2.5k for the turbo option + price of intercooler.

you wont beat turbo for performance tho,
you get what you pay for eh.

didnt use the koyo bearings, you cant get them. Went to the KOYO agent (smp) to no avail.
They have a 45mm od, which you cant get.. full stop.

I had the housings machined out to fit larger bearings, with the same ID. (17mm).

The oil seals are another matter, weird sizes too..

The map sensor engine (later one) also has an odd bearing inside the clutch pulley. You cant get this either but you can space apart two 6906llbc3's with a a seal to get the right width.
The early AFM clutch pulley is different, and has a common aircon bearing- so is easy to replace.

Basicly toyota has done their absolute best at not making these things rebuildable.

Well thats interesting? Anyway. I rang SMP about the genuine bearings, they even tried overseas but couldnt get them. They had similar part numbers in their system but not the same.

I just used double row, self aligning bearings (same thing as the genuine ones) with a bigger OD. Standard sizes are going to cost you 1/4 the price of genuine gay sizes thus easier/cheaper to replace. Oh yes, this is only for 3 of the bearings.. the other is a cylindrical roller, which I replaced with a single row ball with c3 clearance. Doesnt seem any need for a cylindrical roller as there is little/no radial load.

The machining cost me bugger all, but being in the right industry helps!
