when should my cold start injector operate?

just a quick question as to when the cold start injector on my 4age bluetop hould normally be operating?
would it be only when im first starting the engine (ei the first 'crank' to get the engine started) or should it still be working when I give it gas when its cold?

also, where my HT lead connects to the coil theres sometimes sparks jumping between both terminals (+ and -). what would be causing this? too much power going to the coil/ignitor? or a faulty earth? it sparks mostly when i give it gas then as the revs are coming back down to an idle, and also when I take a lead off the spark plug.
would it fix it if I just wrapped some insulation tape around it to stop it earthing out or will it just cause more problems in the long run?

cold start works when the comp tells it too, when the sensors detect stuff... i dont know what exactly

as for the coil, its either shitty earth, shitty dizzy, or shitty plugs

my understanding of cold start injector is it only goes when the engine is cold cranking/key in 'start' position

The cold start injector operates only during cranking and is controlled by the ECU and thermo time switch. When the switch is cold enough it will cause the injector to operate, but to prevent flooding the injection time is limited by calibration of the start injector time switch and a timer in the ECU.

As for the spark jumping across the terminals, I would be looking at a faulty lead first, either that or a faulty coil/earth.
