Caldina questions!

Postby RomanV » Tue Sep 27, 2005 12:56 pm

A friend of mine is in the market for a new car.

I reccomended to him that a GT caldina would be good.
Reliable, with a bit of go, and practical too.

I was sure these were all fwd, but apparently he was told that all GT caldinas are 4wd only.
Is this true? I thought all of the caldinas with the redtop beams motors were fwd only.

ST210s are FWD, ST215s are 4WD

AFAIK the ST210 didn't come with the 3S-GE until 2000, before then they were all 3S-FEs.

IIRC they're 190ps blacktop engines not redtop.

Excuse my ignorance, but (for example) did the st210 come out and then was superceded by the st215?

OR

Are they just different chassis codes to differentiate between fwd and 4wd of the same year?

Is the ST210 the 'old' shape?
Becuase IIRC one of my friends had an old shape one which was 4wd and had a 3sfe/3sge in it.

Yes, the ST210 is the same shape as the ST215, it is just the FWD version, comes in E & G Specs with the 3S-FE and from 2000-2002 in GT spec with the 3S-GE

Yes, the 2000-2002 refers to the ST210 which is FWD and only came out with the 3S-GE after 2000. Hmmm thought it was clear enough

Just as an extra I'm pretty sure that the GT i.e. the 3S-GE one only came as an auto.
If there was a manual I probably would be going for one of them but alas I'll just have to settle for a manual GT-T.

Oh well

FWIW a 5 at the end of the chassis code in a T series chassis (ie Corona, Celica, Carina, Caldina) generally designates 4wd (ie st165, st185, st195, st205, st215), and doesn't say anything about whether the car is turbo'ed or not (although in the cases of st165, st185, st205 there were no NA 4wd's so it makes it simple)

Nope it's a 205 http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/toyota/corona_exiv/

Carina was 195, not Corona.

Speeking from experience, The GT (3S-GE BEAMS BLACKTOP) is a good car...

Good power from a 2ltr non turbo... 210ps factory output...
