Has anyone modified a computer on a 20 valve engine before? And if so what did you use?

So where do you get piggy back ecu thingy? Are there some companies in Auckland who look after that kind of stuff?

For you information guys:

All 3 of the performance car shops I rang in Auckland can "Modify/Chip" my ECU. For $400 I can get a fixed computer management "chip" set to the existing mods I have done on the engine. So I cant re sell it on to anyone else. (unless they have exactly the same Extractors ect...) For $750 I can get a programable "chip" that can be set while dyno tuning.

The HP gains vary depending on what work has been done to the engine prior to the computer upgrade.

SO THERE!!!

Good luck with it. Please do buy one and let us know how you get on.

However I think you'll find they will have replaced some of the Denco PROMS with something more "managable" or possibly swapped out the board itself. Little of the existing Toyota code will still exist.

The reason there aren't (or possibly are few) "chip" upgrades is the fact that the spec on the Denco chips arent published. As such it makes it doubly hard to decode, and even harder to program.

Either way, you are much better off just buying a Link and have it programmed by someone who knows Link.

OK,

The mods I have been quoted are for whole ecu replacement. By the sounds of things I shouldnt bother doing this mod to me every day driver as I may loose top end power but will gain a smoother power curve and more torque. Which isnt what im after. So now im looking at doing some work on the head.

Thanks for the info from the oldies on the site :P

Dude, what planet were the people you talked to from? Thats totally cinnamon ring about face. Most tuners tune for WOT and do some intermediatary tuning to ensure the car runs well mid load. So aftermarket computers are generally best tuned for WOT, as most clients request. Unless extensively tuned you will generally loose some HP somewhere in the curve compared with a standard ECU.

So what does an aftermarket computer give you? The ability to alter your engine and tune it optimally for the changes.

What exactly are you thinking of doing to your head?
