So im told this is a w50, it has 7 bolts at end for the bell housing to bolt to, does that make this a steal or alloy case box? i ask this because the end with gearstick is alloy but the other end is steal, what is this refered to as?

Think you will find its more commonly known as a W5X steel case box

Take a look at this link http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/loats/technical/ma61/gearboxes.html

should prove handy

yep, it's steel cased, and I believe only w50's were steel cased (ie not w55, 56, 57, 58 etc)
