my battery was flat as
so i give it to my mate to charge up.
put it back in and in the morning it was dead.

so could that mean that the alternator is not holding its charge.

Bugger trickle charing, just jump it and let it run for a while. but make sure you let it run / rev it a bit (obviously not much if its cold), to bad i didnt do that when i jumped the gfs car... took the battery outta the prado and everything :( TWICE X_X

Assuming you charged the battery, put it back in and left it overnight without trying to start the car then it could be discharging through a light left on somewhere you dont know about or a wiring fault.

Best bet would be to check battery voltage (should be around 12), chek the voltage with the vehicle running (jump start, should be around 14V at 2000rpm, if its still at 12ish then your alternator is probably porked). If you think the battery is buggered then take it to a garage or battery place and get them to give a quick check. If its charged completely they should be able to do a load test and tell you within 10 seconds if its time to get a new one or not.

For the price that batteries are these days it might just pay to grab a new one for peace of mind that your car is actually going to start when you need it to. Get someone with a multimeter to check current draw from that battery with the key off also just to make sure it isn't slowly going flat overnight.

not the battery then :).

Id say its something draining power over night, havnt connected anything up recently?

Could disconnect your earth at night, and reconnect it in the morning (not allowing anything to drain power), and see if its still got charge.

if so, somethings stealing the batterys life juice.
