Why?

Having a unique car is the best thing, and a boring old Toyota running a Toyota engine isn't unique...

Great idea I think...

CA18 would spank the first 2 for cost once you get a decent gearbox. A very good plan as you are using a factory RWD setup so most parts can stay standard. The basics would be check sump and gearbox tunnel clearance (I believe it fits pretty easy though) and then make engine and gearbox mounts. The rest of the conversion is tha same as any similar horsepower conversion, upgrade fuel, brakes and diff then wire it up.

a CA18 makes perfect sense in comparison to buy a 3sgte..

Way to go man. Your a real outside the square kinda guy huh.

CA18det would rock. Awsome motors, plus they look cool.

I considered a ca18det quite awhile ago, then dropped the idea for a NA 4age, but the idea was refreshed while talking on oldschool. ca18det = cheap horsepower. The 3t-gte would be my other option.

Every man and his dog has a 4age in their ke70's now.
Originally I was looking at a 1uz-fe but decided against it, although it'd be damn awesome. 3s-gte's are apparently just a c**t to get going rwd.

Hydro clutch in an *E7* is not a big problem, it was a factory option. One of the very easy bits of any conversion you undertake. Just remember, any conversion will be twice as hard as anyone tells you and a FWD to RWD conversion is 4 times as hard. Measure twice, cut once and use your bullshit filter on everything you hear.
