AIR FLOW METRE TO MAP SENSOR

Postby Monster_Magnet » Thu Sep 29, 2005 10:58 am

Aside from the obvious like replacing the ecu is there any way to convert the airflow metre to map signal on a 20v 4age. I know it dosn't sound easy but then again I don't know much about map sensors or air flow metres are the signals the same or different or what? Can any one help.

I was thinking about a project at uni making a unit like this but in the end seemed a waste of time. I took both in and put them on the scope the afm decreases from around 4v in a sort of logrithmic fashion as the flap opens. The map increases from 1v linearly as the pressure increases. This could be done but when you think about it manifold pressure and mass air flow are not that easily related and the feactory comp would have very different formula to figure out fuel delivery. By this time you would realise you have wasted heaps of time and go buy a megasquirt

megasquirt is a lot of work in itself.
v3 ms2 is the bling.

I'm wondering why you want to go from AFM to MAP?
If it is for more power... you will go faster by spending your money other things.
AFM isn't bad, it's just a different way of doing things. It's much more accurate than MAP as far as air mass flow goes. And it doesn't make much restriction to the flow of air at all.
If you do want MAP then buy yourself a blacktop 20v complete motor and loom. It will give a much better result than trying to do a MAP conversion on your silvertop.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Thanks for that guys I always wanted to know what the diffeence was in voltage I would have thawt the both rais the voltage as they air flow increase good thing i asked casue that would have been a headache. Well I have seen a TRD setup for airflow to map for any toyota second hand out of japan its 185 new zealand dollars not much involved you simply put the 26 pin loom into the TRD processing box and then from there to the computer and you basically leave the airflow metre unplugged for when you want to go back to air flow and the map sensor needs to be tapped into the throttle bodies on a 20V do you think that would be worth it or just by a mega squirt like suggested. Any body here want an APEXI S-AFC For $100 do you think thats a good price for a gen 1 S-AFC??

You said you would leave the AFM in, but just unplugged, If you do that whats the advantage of going to MAP? I can't see any gains.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

No i said you unplug it and leave the loom to the air flow metre dead so when it comes time to sell your car you plug it back in and no harm to the loom or car increasing re sale value and having the advantage of keeping the expensive (back in the day expensive i mean) map computer from TRD you just brought. See waht I mean.

Yes - Greddy E-manage Ultimate (which is relatively simple wire in piggy back ECU as we use the in caldina) will allow you to remove the AFM and use MAP.
