What spark plugs for a 4agze?

Postby lil » Fri Sep 30, 2005 10:21 pm

I'm looking to change the spark plugs in my supercharged mr2 and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the various types and heat ranges.

What is the best option for a stock engine?

The stock plugs strangely enough. NGK BCPR6EYs from memory. Whatever plugs are listed for them, heat range of 6 anyway

My old GT-Z Levin had a small miss in its top end rev range which was cured by replacing the plugs with NGK platinums. I expect even replacing with standard NGK R plugs would've helped as well though but I run platinums, don't cost me a hell of a lot through work.

Just be careful. I work in the Automotive parts industry and some applications you have to use a platium or similar plug. Go to www.ngk.com and that will tell you what options you have.

The advantage of Platium (being replaced by the iridium range in ngk) plugs is that you dont have to change them as often as a standard plug (approx every 100 000 km)

The std NGK version of the platinum plugs for the 4agze are fine. Use them if ya aint got the cash or fork out for platinums if ya really want to but apart from lasting a fair bit longer there is no real dif.

I'd just run NGK BCPR6ES which i think is the correct code for std heat range and non-platinum

Iridium plugs only last 60 000km
NGK is not replacing platinum with iridium, they are running both lines & aiming the iridium plugs at the preformance market. Platinum plugs still have thier place in the market as a long life plug.

NGK dont currently don't do an iridium option for the 4AGZE. The standard platinum plug for all ZE's is BCPR6EPN8

I need new plugs for the Targa car, 4agze. Obviously they'll get a hiding (within stock ECU Limits though). What is recomemnded for this type of use ? PN would be ideal please.

According to my 2005-2006 NGK catalog right here,
The standards for 4AGZE are BCPR6ES-11s, BCPR6EIX-11s for Iridium, and BCPR6EP-11s for platinum (11 being 1.1mm gap.)
I run BCPR6ES gapped to 0.9mm in my car, my theory was I might get spark blow out at 14psi but it doesn't seem to make any difference, so when I can be bothered pulling them out again I'll put them back to 1.1mm...
Also Iridiums made no noticable power difference compared to new copper plugs.

11s? I thought they were all 8s as in 0.8mm gap. I and everyone else I know with 4agzes have always run that.

Catalogue prob wrong :?

My thoughts too.

we never run 1.1mm gap in anything turbo'd

Bosch Super 4's are the biggest gimmick.

The Denso plugs listed by Mr Revhead or even a set of copper ngks will be fine. I run el cheapo ngk bkr7e's $20 for four.

We sell bosch plugs at work.

They are good plugs and are well suited for certain applications,
(ie anything aussie made). Would not fit them to a Japanese designed/built car.

you will find the sometimes up to 15 different NGK plugs will all cross over to one single bosch plug, they just dont have the range.

Whatever you do don't fit cheap champions from repco or similar.
Run NGK or Denso.

I didnt mean standard from factory, i ment the standard listing from ngk. NGK list platinum plugs for all 4AGE 16/20valve & ZE.

As for 1.1mm gaps in ZE's i think Pelo is looking at the GE listing. Every NGK catalogue I've looked at has listed 0.8mm gap for ZE's

To answer Beeker's question a colder temp will be better for prolonged hi temps like racing. So you could safely run a BCPR7ES gaped down to 0.8mm. In most street 4AG's 7's will foul up as they spend to much time a lower revs
