you cant fit your 3 beautiful ladies in an NSXR though... and have fun trying to get them into a 2001 type R too...

u can argue so many points about those cars... but just think how fast you could make a 2jzgte vvti supra for the cost of an nsx... or the gtr for that matter...

Based on current performance model line ups Honda owns Toyota. Compare the current ITR to the current Celica, the Honda has more power, more torque and costs less. I wouldn't be surprised if the Honda handles better, but not having driven either, I can't really comment. The only other sports car Toyota offer new in NZ is the MR2/S, which looks ridiculous, has a paltry 103kw and costs 52k . Contrast this to the S2000, costs a bit more, but has 177kw and, based on objective experience, is dynamically superior to anything Toyota have ever produced, sad but true.

The NSX is in another league again and, as has already been mentioned, was a genuine competitor to Ferrari (348) when released, something Toyota have not yet acheived. Similarly the S2000 was designed to compete head on with the Porsche Boxster, and prompted refinements to the latter when released. I don't see any Toyota, past or present, attracting attention at Porsche or Ferrari.

IMO The only decent performance Toyota available today is the Altezza RS200, and even then the engine is woefully inadequate in every respect compared to equivalent displacement engine fitted to the S2000.

AFAIC Toyota completely dropped the ball when the downgraded the MR2 to compete with the MX5, as the SW20 turbo was arguably the best and most pure perfomance car they've ever produced. They certainly lost my loyalty and custom as a result.

Of course on a family car basis the score may be somewhat different, but then that's another argument entirely :D.

Im sure nemesis won't be too overly concerned with how his S2000 is going in 10-20 years time.
It's just a shame Toyota don't sell half of their decent performance models here.
You've still got to applaud Toyota for being the most innovative Japanese car manufacturer though.
ie.
1) 1st Japanese car manufacturer to produce a mid engined sports car
2) 1st Japanese car manufacturer to produce a 2.0L turbo 4WD sports car and then go on to become the 1st Jap car manufactuer to dominate the WRC
3) 1st Japanese (world?) car manufacturer to mass produce a supercharged engine

The last Corolla I drove belonged to my Grandma :P. But yes, I would tend to agree, Toyota probably wins in terms of reliability.

That last comment sums it up best I think... the Nissans are a bit better reputed for their turbos, Honda for their NAs, but Toyota are good all rounders. The main thing I have a problem with in Toyotas is the more modern, the less "spirit"or personality.

Obviously the early TA22 Celicas and AE86 Levins etc rocked, but then the FWDs started coming, then the MR-S. Urk.

I have no particular favourite in this - all cars have their different strengths, but I don't understand where people from here are coming from with Hondas blowing up.... they aren't generally as reliable as Toyotas (though I've never had any problems with mine aside from basic wear and tear) they definately don't deserve booBAAAAA boom comments! IMHO and from my experience they are one of the most reliable things on the market...

I'd love me a Lexus IS430 "thing".... the aftermarket supercharged 4.3l V8. Mm...

Who really cares which car is "better" because the cars aren't the same...

It's like saying... which is better segway or skateboard....

if you think about it - there are only a minority of honda's that are really considered "performance" cars - not taking a dig here whatsoever this is just fact that most honda enthusiests drive either an integra, a civic or something else that is high end spec (s2k or domani or whatever)

if you look at the range of performance hondas and performance toyotas there are just so much more variety in toyota but it doesn't nessicarly make them better

it's not like we're comparing a brand new GL starlet to a honda jazz or something...

it's a specialised bracket for sure and someone already said it... you drive what you want to drive or what is available for your wallet at any given time

I personally prefer toyotas over hondas simply because my first and second cars were toyotas and my third will probably be a toyota as well
