two sets of 6x9

thinking of putting two sets of 6x9s in the back parcel tray of my fxgt - had a couple of 12" in the boot but im ova it now and want my boot space back so thouht i could use the same amp to run the two sets- has anyone tried this?- i know its not the same as two subs but its gotta be better than just one set of 6x9s

My mate had two pairs of 6x9s in his boot at one stage, Went amazingly well for 6x9's

You'll probably have to make a custom parcel tray out of wood or similar strong, hard material as the standard one will not hack it. Also you want it as INflexible as possible if it can move or rattle in the slightest it will sound CRAP. Also try and have the boot sealed as much as possible to use it as a large "box"

Make sure also that the amp and 6x9s are hooked up correctly!!!
(I dont mean wiring hooked up correctly, I mean correct loading for the amp and acceptable wattage level being run for 6x9's.)

What amp and 6x9s are you going to be using?

Why dont you try mounting a pair of 8" subs in the parcel tray? Or a grid array of 6" subs? That would annihilate pretty much any 6"x9" setup i can think of, plus it wouldnt mangle your soundstage, plus it would actually play low enough to provide decent bass

6x9's suck
teh only thing there good for is making ya mid's sound muddy and givin you a vage idea of what its litl to have some sort of bass
get a pair of 8" coaxs
far better in everyway

It just sounded like he already had a set and didnt want to spend too much.

As they said, if you want much better sound go with some small subs.

Seriously tho, a couple of of decent 8" subs wont set you back any more than 2 pairs of decent 6"x9"s... sure you might have to whip up a baffle, but thats a 20 minute job... and if you run them free-air, they'll only probably need 50wRMS or so to reach their mechanical limit anyway

sounds like 8" subs are the way to go- probably best suit my music rather than the two 12" i had- i have an xplod amp ( 75rms x 4 ) to run them so that should be heaps- so running them free air is ok then? anyone know the best brand to go for?
