Springs for KE20

Postby RE20 » Wed Oct 12, 2005 12:36 pm

Just after reccomendations from people that have put lower springs in KE20's what brand/model did you use and what would you reccomend? I have lovells in my starlet which are progressive, I think I want something firmer though, especially in a light car.
So any suggestions? Nothing too expensive either  Kings would be good depending on peoples views.

I know this may sound bogan to hell but my friend had compressed springs in his D.X and never had a problem and passed all his warrants.

$30 a peice and he took them out and put them in.

They only make low King springs for KE20's and thats only a 30mm drop,
as far as i know theres no off the shelf aftermarket options if you wanna go lower than that.
Ive just had my standard springs compressed 65mm & I didn't have to shorten the shocks.
if you dont want to compress them you could get custom ones made to whatever hight/rate you want, not that expensive either...

But he wants firm, and Compressed DX springs arent my idea of firm.

In my KE30 I was using Dobinsons springs, the green ones. Theyre very nice springs, very firm and handled superbly. You can pick them up for about $180 a pair retail.

Highly recommend them, ive used Cobra's these are way to soft and dont handle much better than stockers. Havnt used any other brands tho sorry.

Compressed springs were soft??

Thats not what we found but replace rather than compress you get new shocks at the same time.

Do all the KE20s share the same ID etc for springs? What part no kings fit? And for custom springs what would be a good rate for a firm street driven car? I have no idea how to go about choosing the right rate, trail and error is too expensive!! Perfer not to have progressives so may get kings, cut the progressive bit out and get the top modded so its flat? Would that be an alright idea?

Yeah I will look around, If I do get kings they will need cutting/ compressing anyway as they will not be low enough. Might check out Dobinsons springs.
