No power on TPS

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:26 pm

I was having a play around with the multi-meter on my TPS tonight in the hope of finding something which will make my car run like sh*t...

the most obvious thing I found was no voltage anywhere. the Vcc pin (blue/red wire) should be a constant 5v DC supply - im guessing to the TPS.
ive checked the TPS every way possible and also checked the voltage at the ECU and still nothing. ive also tried it with another ECU and its no difference.

where does the TPS get its power from? is it run soley by the ECU or is it similar to the TVIS? (which needs power going to one of the wires on the plug at the bottom of this pic for it to work)
is there anything anyone can think of that I could've easily missed when wiring it up?

hope this makes sense!!

look at the pin out diagrams on club4ag for the Vcc output from the ecu.. it should be a constant 5V... i thought it feeds both the map sensor and the tps..
if ur not getting anything then something is a miss
which will definatly explain why your engine will be runnign crap.. it will be thinking its at (98kPa) 0vac the whole time... i think...... (it will still run ok with no tps. well in my experience)

my map sensor seems to be working OK, but still worth checking that out if they are related. and yes you are right, the car does run fine at times - but never consistently.

seeing as ive tried it with about 4 different ECUs, I wouldn't think it is a problem with the ecu.

well trace the Vcc wire goign into the map sensor.. ur tps vcc should be coming off that same wire.. and that wire shold go back to the vcc pin on the ecu... so if ur getting 5v to the map but nothing to the tps then must be something on your wiring..
