yeah we owned it! this always happens!

ok ok so youre swappind an lsd head from IRS to Live??
It cant work coz the lsd head is bigger in the irs as the axles move and they dont in the live as its fixed! thats gonna be a lot of $&#$% around!

if you don't want to go too heavy, get a diff from a nissan navara or vannette. 190mm crown wheel, 30mm axles,good spread of ratios and some of them are LSD. also have the the same stud pattern on the vans.

um the diff i have been offerd is out of a early 1980ty supra celica he model with the 5m i think it is i dont want a shimmed up hilux as they are not goin to handel the jandel once i start dishing out the abuse also i want a good mechanical lsd as the car is goin to be used both on the rd and track what would you guyz recommend

a shimmed hilux will handle the jandle just as good as a celica supra diff

the issue with the celica supra is it is probably IRS which no good to you

hilux diffs are what the garage dori ae86 drifter guys use

if your running NA just get a trd lsd for the ae86 diff

Dude a hilux diff will handle any jandle!

Early celice diff will most likley be irs which is expensive to put into an ae86 as a new subframe will have to be constructed and there is also a good chance that you may get a t series irs diff and then youd be back to sqaure -1 as the sub frame would still be required!

and theres an even smaller chance of getting the ma45 celica diff which is just an old school version of the 86 diff being live rear axle!!

even then youve got to worry about ratio's!!

Best bet is hilux rear (possibly off some description of smaller van which will maitain 4 stud hub) with brakes from an old school toyota (disk ofcourse) with external hand brake, and most of the time they will be either 4.1 or 4.3 ratio 4.3 being the better for power applications but 4.1 being a nice overall diff!

Excuse my ignorance,

When you do a hilux Diff into an AE86, you change the diff and the entire axle ? You also mention a hilux diff from a van being more suited. Be intertested to hear more detail here. Is there any write ups ?

the entire live axle from a Hilux is used.

there are many written articles on this conversion. possibly a bit of overkill for N/A use.

i wouldnt call it over kill by any means for an na engine . You can beat them all day with no worries at all .. .
wanna win an endurance race? endurance is the key word here ...
the weight increase is marginal ...
switching to turbo hilux and w55 box the weight of my car has only increased by about 30-40kg .. ... and the more weight in the back im guessing the balance is now about 50.50

exactly! I've had t-series break axles with n/a abuse. old school hilux and hiace vans have a short rear if you can spy one. We have a few but they all vary slightly in width its wierd, the shortest being from an old 70's hiace with round lights. And good luck who said to find an old school g series 4 stud van :roll:

just restud a short one if you find it

Obviously your vast knowledge needs to be shared with all the people who have put an LSD from the MA61 IRS into an F code live axle housing. Or the people who have put aftermarket Tru Trak diffs into both IRS and live axle F code housings simply with different bearings.
Someone better tell them to stop driving their cars because they are really imagining the diff head they thought they had sucessfully fitted. :roll:

i do not want a clutch type lsd i want a mechanical one can you purcahse a trd lsd for the hilux diff i state i do not want a shimmed up clutch lsd i want to get a diff that i can buy a good aftermarket lsd for cost is not the worry do things once do it right a nice 2 way mechanical lsd is goin to be way better than a shimmed up hilux lsd agree
