What do you think of the following?

Postby ollieboy » Thu Oct 13, 2005 8:34 pm

Hi, I'm new to this and I was just wondering what you thought.

I'm looking at getting a Kenwood KFC-W3009 Sub:
http://www.qualitycaraudio.co.nz/SubwooferPage.htm

and an amp to power it. What do you think of that sub, its 380WRMS and I was wondering if it would be alright running on a Sony Xplod 600W amp which is about 200WRMS or whether I should get the Sony Xplod 250W amp which is 250WRMS I think. They are both on this page:
http://www.parallelimported.co.nz/searc ... &make=Sony
The 250W amp is cheaper but better so I'm a bit confused as well.

Cheers for your help

Ollie

Well what about the Kenwood amp? You think that would be any good.

What brand should I get then?

I'm looking for something cheap but still sounds good.

Well I dont really want to spend more than $500 and I want a Sub and an Amp, I dont need a HU because I know some people who can get me one. So Yeah I suppose its just the sub and amp and some speakers for treble I suppose. I am new to this so please forgive me if I sound like a dick that doesn't know anything because well, I don't.

Cheers

Comps- Powerbase ES6CV2@ 149
Amp- Pioneer GM3100T Amp @ $149
Sub- Rockford Fosgate P112S4 @ $119

So thats about $417, once you pay for shipping, amp install kit and make a box your probly looking around the $600 all up which is damn cheep.

This is just what id have for this money so dont take it as the best system to buy, just what id have, then again i compleatly blew the budget on my audip install and im afrade that budget didnt even buy my HU  :P

So yeah in conclusion your working on a very limited budget but i think youl get an OK system for that money :)

Cool thanks for that, I'm really interested in a cool system because I want it to serve as a memorial to my friend who just died because I know thats what he would have done. I want something of good quality because what kind of a memorial would it be if it fell to pieces? I heard from ppl that Xplod was good thats why i was talking about it but thanks for clearing it up and letting me know it was BS

cheers

Thanks heaps for the info, it really means alot to me. You know what they say. "Its hard to find good help these days." But you have shown there are still people willing to help.

I'll put you guys down on the memorial plaque for your help.

I have sent a PM to blackrazor so hopefully he can help me sort all the stuff out.

Cheers,
Ollie

for $500 i'll be pleasently surprised.. and don't bother adding us to the the plaque - we help because we want to, not because we do it out of pity :)

people have experiences with all different brands of car audio and its hard to compare them all unless you're using the same setups, same car, same wiring/install.

my mate has a setup with all sony speakers and a single 12" all running off a fusion amp(which i also stay clear of because they are ugly). its $&#$% loud and very very clear, even moreso than my setup.

ive had a pair of 150rms single coil subs (one jbl and one alpine) running off a small cheap rockford mono channel amp. the setup sounded average but it had enough deep clear bass to kill a small child. yet after all my gear got stolen i could never get back that same bass running 2 of those alpines off a $1000 kenwood amp.

moral of the story - sonys probably not as bad as its made out to be.

personally i would stick with pioneer for headunits and rockford gear for amps/speakers/subs...because its brutal and sexy. :)

sony is as bad as its made out to be and there is a cetain amount of coil slap if you have too much power in them.. also they aren't very clear and they tend to distort.

if you compared to their high end products or the 90's era such as ES and XES then yuo'll realise how far sony have bitten the bullet and taken marketing to a whole new level.. the xplod range is terrible - point blank.

yip i can agree from prevous experience i think i would sooner keep my reactor gear (that i am currently destroying) than runb another sony xplod

there amps are ok kinda, but i wouldn't get a sub, very cheap and nasty

go rockford or sumfin like that, i know its expensive but you will not be let down
HP is how hard you hit a wall, torque is how quickly u get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
