Blacktop link plus install

Postby AE111_modifier » Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:56 pm

Hello, I have recently done a few mods to my Levin :P (adjustable cam wheels, Kelford billet cams, TRD valve springs, TRD head gasket, lightned flywheel, 3 angle valve grind, new rings and bearings - big ends and main).

Now its time to put the computer in to get it running. But the guy who is installing it (turbo shop) reckons that they cant just cut the wires where they go into the original computer and put them in the link he says they have to run a whole new loom to all the sensors. Is this the truth??

Also what do people here think about a rev limit, I was thinking soft cut at 9000 and hard cut at 9200.

ah... do a search on turboshop ;).

you could just cut and go... however they would need to know which wire went to which sensor etc.

for them it would be easier (not experienced with bt 4age), to run brand new loom and wires.

but i mean yeh. its the turboshop :D, thats all im gonna say :D.

I read the threads on the turboshop. Had me going there for a minute, but it looks to be a case of misrepresentation. I’ve seen some good jobs come out of the turboshop... didn't they build the custom twin turbo Toyota v8 powered rx7 that was in a show in Dunedin a while back?
But hey if they bodge the job up I will be posting about it on here, after all its costing $1800 to install!!

*Choke* what?!

uhh... get a few quotes from other places first ok bud? especially in the chch area (check out the chch section, there will be a "where to get a link installed" posts).

Yeh they did... they also told a few of my mates to flog off for fairly simple tasks.

installing a manifold and turbo, for like $600, (INSTALLING) not making. Telling him they cant source T28 turbochargers.

argh, im not going to go into the reasons why weve had bad experiences with them, but yeh.

Find out why a chap named lunchie on here dosnt drive a GT legacy anymore ;)

Yeah I'll defiantly have a look around Dunedin and get some quotes from other places ect. I can't really go further a field than Dunedin though, the car doesn't run at all well, its all bap bap cough splutter bap bap bap. Do you know of anyone else in Dunedin who installs link computers?

Qualified Link installers?? Now that's a new one, I've fitted & sorted out hundreds of links & stopped many people from removing their Links & Link ain't ever called me a qualified installer simply cause there is no such thing.

Any competent person with some electrical/mechanical knowledge should be able to install/wire a link. Any good Auto sparky should have no problems doing it. As for cost your looking at a day to 2 days max for an install & if you pay over $1000 just for an install your getting ripped. We've installed & tuned Link plus's in a day(long day 10 or 12 hours).

As for cutting the wires at the ecu & connecting the link up it's something I try to steer clear off, especially on older cars as you run into hassles with wire & connector quality. Also you don't always no if the factory wiring is shielded or not to stop interference or if the factory wiring is the correct size to handle the job. Best bet is to use what link supply.

That links doesn't work but from what I've heard/been told the guys at NZEFI used to work for Link & did a bit of their development including the dash & G3 Ecu which no one seems to have seen either of.

I don't mean it to be a nasty statement. I merely stating that the g3/dash still isn't available even though it was advertised a long while ago. Hopefully when it does come out it will be good & I'd rather that they do delay it & sort out all the bugs than release a poor product.

I've fitted a few link's and they are not that hard if you understand EFI.

Hell, for that Price I can go to dunedin and collect it, fit your Link, tow it to CHCH and get NZEFI to tune it, and drop it back to you !!!

$1800!!!!!!!

It took me 1 day to install my link pus into my old trueno using the factory loom. $55.00 x 8 hours = $440, thats what we would have charged if it was through work. But say it took 2 days it's still only $880 inc gst.

So they want to spend around 32 hours to install your link, Thats almost a whole week!!!

I was quoted by torque performance 1500 including the dyno tune. $3000 all up including the link+ but i didn't go with that deal.

P:S The factory loom that was in my cr had sheilding for the triggers, o2 and knock sensor wires.

Hay, I’ve been thinking about the linkplus install and I decided that I am going to have a go at installing it and then I am going to take it down to Auto Tuning & Electrical to get it tuned.

I read the Link manual and I have a downloaded version of the Blacktop engine manual with full ECU pinout and some wiring schematics. So yeah when my exams are over I’ll be able to have a crack at it. It's just real annoying having a car with a fully rebuilt and modded engine parked in the drive way that you cant drive! :(
It runs, but it runs very very rich like to the point that it blows black smoke/fumes and starts to smell like the local petrol pump station!
